Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Comfort zones are nice, aren’t they? Or comfy might be a better word. However, not much is ever achieved inside them.

I get it, pushing yourself outside of that comfort zone can be difficult and incredibly daunting at first. The pull of the comfort zone is naturally strong because our minds and bodies like to revert to type and do the things they’ve always done because they’re what it’s good at and what it finds easiest.

For the last few years I’ve been on a mission to continually step beyond my comfort zone and to keep pushing the boundaries. A while ago now I saw a quote which is one that will constantly sit with me and one that I will repeat to myself when I’m wondering whether or not to give something a shot.

“Nothing ventured, nothing gained.”

It’s pretty straightforward and easy to understand. If you don’t take any risks, you won’t achieve anything.

Sit in your comfort zone all you want but you won’t achieve anything there. The second you venture a little bit outside it, you’ll be surprised at how much you start to achieve.

Life is all about risk. It’s all about how much you’re willing to put on the line.

The people you see who achieve anything at all in life, have at the very least risked something. To put it in gambling terms, they have betted on themselves and got to work.

If you do not risk anything, you will not achieve anything. It’s as simple as that.

You will meet a lot of people in life who talk. They will talk all day and night about how they’re going to do this and that. All of these different goals they’ve got, but upon observation you’ll notice that all they actually do is talk. There’s no action to back it up and that’s because they’re not willing to take the risk that comes along with wanting to achieve bigger things in life.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It’s hands down probably my favourite quote and also the quote I actually use the most in life. It’s a great reminder to take that risk.

Life is one big risk. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

See you next week.
